NYCEDC Welcomes Elma’s to La Marqueta in East Harlem

On June 30th, New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) welcomed Elma’s, the newest vendor to join La Marqueta in East Harlem. A neighborhood institution since 2013, Elma’s grand opening in the market over the weekend included local community residents, as well as sounds from local musicians Michelle DeAngelis, Barbara Purdy, and DJ RaRa.

The juice bar and eatery, named for Harlem native owner Jimmy Brown’s late grandmother, is modeled around the recipes that he grew up watching her cook. Famous for their BBQ pork and “rasta pasta,” Elma’s features a rotating meal of the day. The Harlem favorite will also bring their many smoothie and juice offerings with them to La Marqueta, and continue to host events for the community from inside the market.
